In order to minimise your expenditure, you will need to be registered with Medicare and obtain a Mental Health Care Plan from your local GP. Alternatively, some private health insurance policies offer subsidies for counselling services – as every policy differs, you will need to contact your provider directly to ask if you are covered. Without Medicare or private health insurance, the full fee for counselling services will be required.
If you need help right away, it's important to call services set up to help in immediate crisis, like the police or ambulance on 000. Life Line offers immediate, short-term crisis support over the phone free of charge, and they can be contacted on 13 11 14.
