Richard Metres is an exceptionally skilled and caring counsellor who has been in private practice for 30 years. He is an active member of the AASW. Richard also has substantial professional experience in the community sector, in both the USA and Australia. He specialises in providing effective therapeutic support to individuals, couples and families.
Richard is warm and approachable – his clients find him very easy to talk to, and he is deeply committed to building a therapeutic relationship based in trust, respect and empathy. Counselling with Richard is an opportunity for clients to talk through challenges; explore feelings, thoughts, expectations and past experiences; and gain awareness of any barriers that have limited their lives and relationships. Richard gives his clients useful strategies and practical tools to help them overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. He is deeply committed to supporting his clients with compassion and kindness – with Richard’s help, profound healing, change and growth can occur.
Richard draws on a number of different counselling methods in his practice, tailoring his approach to meet the unique needs of each individual client, couple, or family unit. Therapeutic techniques that Richard uses include: Attachment-Oriented Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Trauma-Informed Counselling, Feminist Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, specialist Relationship Therapy, and Systemic Family Therapy. Richard is dedicated to supporting his clients to use their inner strengths and get the best out of themselves, their relationships, and their lives.
