Richard Dalton is a highly skilled and qualified counsellor who brings a vast amount of professional expertise and experience to a diverse range of client presentations. Richard brings a high level of care and support to all of the adults, adolescents, and families that he feels honoured and privileged to work with.

In collaboration with his clients, Richard applies evidenced-based techniques in a warm, non- judgmental and authentic manner to build trust and emotional safety as the crucial platform to empower his clients to move to what truly matters in their lives, at a pace that suits them. As clients often engage with therapy feeling stuck, Richard takes a broad approach with each client to get to the heart of the matter, thereby empowering his clients to instill the necessary insight and clarity that can change unhelpful patterns and build enduring healing, growth, and change. Richard assists his clients with identifying their counselling goals and aspirations as fundamental to remaining aligned with the client’s own sense of meaning. In this manner, the client retains a felt sense of self-agency as the counselling process unfolds. As counselling progresses and the client’s awareness and insight grow, Richard assists his clients with the practical implementation of behavioural change away from the counselling session, and into the client’s day to day life.

Richard values and honours each person as presenting with a unique range of circumstances that are a direct result of their unique experiences. He encourages each client to examine their inner processes that have led them to their current positions. To achieve this, Richard adopts a number of modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfully Based Techniques, Schema Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Trauma Informed Therapy. Richard maintains an unwavering belief that each client has an innate capacity for ongoing inner growth and life changing progress, which is a guiding principle in his work with each of his clients.
