Peter Burge is an accomplished counsellor and psychotherapist with over 10 years’ experience and is a clinical member of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia. He works with adolescents, adults, couples and families.

Peter is warm and approachable and is committed to providing counselling that empowers his clients to live their most enjoyable and productive life. He helps clients identify thoughts, emotional reactions and behaviours that are no longer serving them and generate new and more satisfying ways of being in the world. Peter supports clients to be with and process difficult or uncomfortable emotions so they can return to a more relaxed, flowing and energised experience of life. He also assists clients in discovering the unmet needs behind each emotion, how to recognise their authentic needs in each situation of their life and create ways of getting those needs met, so that they live more satisfying and fulfilling lives.

His therapeutic approach is to help clients explore and make meaning of their experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment that promotes greater self-acceptance. Peter uses a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to the client’s unique individual needs, including: Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness, Trauma-informed Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Transpersonal Counselling. When working with couples, Peter also uses an approach informed by Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Imago Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy of Stan Tatkin.
