Matthew Cottam is a counsellor who is highly experienced in supporting clients through a range of emotional, relationship and life challenges. He is a member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and works with clients with a wide range of presenting concerns.
Matthew brings a thoughtful and practical approach to counselling. His style is grounded, collaborative, and focused on helping clients make meaningful progress in their lives. He works alongside clients to explore what may be contributing to feelings of distress or being stuck, while helping them develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Counselling sessions provide a respectful and supportive environment where clients can slow down, reflect, and speak openly without judgement. Matthew aims to help clients build clarity, emotional resilience, and practical ways of responding to life’s challenges so they can move forward with greater confidence and direction.
Matthew takes an integrative and client-centred approach to counselling, drawing on evidence-based methods including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and elements of psychodynamic therapy. He believes counselling can create meaningful and lasting change, and works with clients to develop greater self-understanding, psychological flexibility, and a more balanced and fulfilling life.
