Brian Hunt has extensive professional experience as a psychotherapist, working with clients across a broad range of issues for over 20 years. A core component of his role involves supervising other counsellors and allied health workers. He is a Level 4 member of the Australian Counselling Association, a member of the College of Clinical Counsellors, and a PACFA-accredited individual and group supervisor. He also holds a master’s degree in Gestalt therapy. Brian has been published in the GANZ Journal and has authored various publications, including reflections on his experiences in indigenous communities.
Brian supports adolescents, adults, couples, children, and family groups, and is passionate about providing counselling that empowers his clients to make genuine and long-lasting positive change in their lives. Even if a client feels stuck in unhelpful or destructive patterns, Brian guides them toward an authentic understanding of their circumstances and options for moving forward. He uses language that is easy to understand, insightful, engaging, and outcome-focused. He supports clients with practical guidance and effective strategies to address their concerns. Having awareness of reactions, understanding them, accepting them, and learning to modify them as necessary can lead to real change and growth, enabling us to manage life challenges more effectively and authentically.
Brian is committed to helping his clients discover an achievable way forward that improves psychological well-being, relationships with others, and genuine family life. Brian believes that each person’s emotional response to a situation is uniquely complex and is shaped by their personal lived experience and life circumstances. The modalities he uses include Gestalt therapy, Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Psychotherapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy (IDT), Emotion-Focused Therapy, Group Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, and Transactional Analysis. Brian helps clients truly address their relationships with themselves and others, enabling profound change. He will always work with you to explore those parts that have shaped who you are and who you really want to be.
