Yvonne Swanton is a skilled counsellor and accredited mental health social worker with extensive experience in working with adults, adolescents, couples and families. Yvonne has worked in many sectors including private practice, government, non-profit and community health sectors. Yvonne supports clients with a broad range of presenting issues and is inclusive of the LGBTIQ community.
Yvonne’s warm and engaging approach assists her clients to feel supported and more comfortable in exploring their present life challenges. She views the counselling process as an opportunity for clients to gain insight and empowerment over the underlying issues that are impacting on their emotional wellbeing. In this way, each counselling session can develop into a positive and uplifting experience that creates real change and personal growth. Even if a client is experiencing unhelpful patterns and beliefs about themselves, Yvonne supports them to safely engage in effective strategies to improve their psychological wellbeing and produce positive outcomes.
Yvonne adopts a person-centred approach in her work, with a strong focus on establishing rapport and building the therapeutic relationship. She is committed to providing a high standard of care to all her clients and believes that the counselling process should be individualised to meet the client’s unique therapeutic need. As such Yvonne incorporates a number of evidenced based therapies dependent on client needs. These include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
