Shona Elliot is a highly skilled and insightful counsellor with over 35 years’ professional experience. She is a member of the Australian Counselling Association, and the AASW. In addition to her private practice, Shona is a lecturer and has worked extensively in the community health and education sectors. Shona specialises in counselling young people, individual adults, couples and families.
Shona is empathic and engaging: she provides a supportive, nonjudgmental space for her clients to discuss and explore their situation. She deeply listens to her clients, and helps them to find ways to disentangle from limiting patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. By heightening awareness of the effect different issues may have on her clients’ sense of self – and relationships with others – Shona supports her clients to develop genuine confidence in their capacity to create personal wellness and growth, in all areas of life.
Shona has a client-centred approach to counselling, and tailors sessions to meet the unique needs and treatment goals of each client. Therapeutic techniques that Shona uses include Gestalt Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Shona is strongly committed to equipping her clients with self-support strategies that are lifelong tools for sustained well-being.
