Certified Clinical Trauma Professional
Peter Burgoyne is a skilled professional counsellor with more than 15 years’ clinical experience working in a number of contexts including family and relationship counselling, including families, individuals and couples experiencing relationship breakdown; trauma support; grief and loss support and addiction recovery support. Peter has much experience counselling people experiencing anxiety, stress and depression, and has also worked with people who have been harmed as a result of sexual and emotional abuse.
Peter sees each person as the expert in their own life, and he understands the importance of personal emotional safety. Feeling emotionally safe allows a person to start to speak openly about their life and the aspects that trouble them. Once emotional safety is established, a person is better able to objectively understand and resolve personal difficulties, facilitating counselling sessions into positive and uplifting experiences.
Peter also works as a professional standards consultant and is a qualified clinical supervisor to other practitioners and students. Therapeutically, Peter is a skilled exponent of Narrative Therapy and employs a Trauma-informed Care and Practice model of support.
