Melissa is a professional counsellor with many years of counselling experience in her own private, registered counselling practice. Melissa studied with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors for over 5 years to gain her Diploma in Professional Counselling and Advanced Study Majors in Addictions, Grief and Loss, Conflict Resolution and Couple and Family Counselling, she has also completed the Applied Neuroscience and Brain Health Professional Development Program. Melissa undertakes ongoing professional development to ensure her skills are current and she receives ongoing professional supervision from a registered supervisor to ensure best practice is provided. Melissa is a professional, registered member of The Australian Counselling Association, (this professional body governs her practice, ensuring she adheres to strict ethical guidelines). She is also a member of The Neuroscience Academy, The Mental Health Academy, Family Drug Support and The Alliance for Suicide Prevention. Melissa strives to create and maintain a safe, confidential, welcoming, respectful, empowering and non-judgemental environment where her clients, regardless of age, race, gender, socio-economic status or religious affiliation can freely discuss and work through their personal feelings, situations and challenges that are affecting their lives. Melissa is dedicated and passionate to being a non-judgemental, supportive, genuine, caring and empathetic counsellor who shares her knowledge and expertise to assist her clients to make empowered decisions about their lives. Her approach to counselling ensures that the relationship between client and counsellor is warm, respectful, confidential and congruent, as she believes that feeling safe and understood are important in order to work through problems. Upon arrival at Melissa’s counselling practice, you will immediately become aware of the welcoming, private environment in which she delivers her professional services. Her counselling approach is collaborative in nature, with the client and her participating as equal partners in both goal-setting and working together to reach those goals. When assisting her clients, Melissa uses an integrative approach. She uses skills and techniques from therapies that are clinically effective, evidence-based and drawn from many different counselling models, to ensure her treatment approach is the most appropriate and effective to match her clients individual needs and goals. She will work in ways that will respect and promote your ability to make decisions in the light of your own beliefs, values and context.
Melissa strongly believes that with effective professional counselling support, everyone has the capacity to change their behaviour for the good. She is passionate about providing her clients with the professional assistance they need to unlock their own potential to overcome the challenges that are affecting their lives.
