John Dodwell is a counsellor and member of the Australian Counselling Association. John’s experience has always been in the health and wellbeing industry and since 2015 John has been working in the not for profit sector as a support worker and counsellor. John’s client base has included people from a diverse range of backgrounds and his skills lie in supporting young people, individuals, couples and families that are experiencing difficulties in their relationships, work environment, hardship, concerns of the past and managing current life challenges.
John is motivated by compassion and a desire to support other human beings in their challenges. John is empathetic and understanding and able to listen, clarify and validate his clients’ experiences. John will help you to identify and draw from your strengths within. He encourages clients to have hope for their futures by guiding ways to step forward and make positive changes through setting goals, seeing opportunities and learning new skills. John believes our intrinsic value as human beings is not in what we do, but who we are. For clients wanting to overcome unwanted or non-preferred behaviour, John works with you in focusing not on the form of that behaviour but the function, delving into the ‘why?’ to break those unwanted patterns.
For John, the effectiveness of counselling is based on having a good therapeutic relationship with his clients. John uses aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Narrative Exposure Therapy to support the unique individual needs of each client.
John Dodwell has appointments available in the following location: Wagga Wagga
