Dr Jo Stephens is an accomplished registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. She has worked for 30 years in the counselling and healthcare industry as a clinician, educator, manager and academic, and has supported people with personal, medical, mental health, traumatic, and chronic health issues. Jo has experience working across all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Jo’s vast professional experience enables her to meet people where they are, in a way that promotes confidence and trust during the therapy session.
Jo is an exceptionally empathetic and highly professional counsellor. She maintains safety, respect, confidentiality and compassion, and understands the importance of these aspects to maintain a comfortable therapy session. When Jo meets with clients, she works together with them to develop strategies and plans for the changes they hope to make in their lives.
Through counselling, Jo can help people explore different ways to work through life’s challenges and to refocus on health and wellbeing. She does this by listening deeply to people, ensuring they feel heard, acknowledged, and understood. Jo uses a combination of narrative, solution focussed and family therapy, collaborating with people in a non-judgemental way.
