Diploma of Nursing
Jane is a trained nurse with a Diploma of Counselling and a Diploma of Body Psychotherapy. She also has additional qualifications in Child Youth and Family Intervention and Trauma Informed Residential Care with high risk youth. Jane has worked many years as a counsellor and psychotherapist. As a member of the Australian Counselling Association, Jane participates in ongoing personal development and certified supervision. Jane’s background in nursing brings an understanding of how people manage stressful situations as well as the physical aspects of the functioning of the body. For the last decade she has immersed herself into the mental health sector focusing on the study of trauma, in the body and mind as well as its resolution and working with high risk youth.
Jane is curious and non-judgmental about how her clients experience life, and she has a passion for helping them find relief and renewed purpose. This feels fundamental to how she works. Jane’s extensive life experience, including extensive international experience of other cultures, brings a lot of empathy with the challenges experienced by her clients. Her clinical practice as a counsellor and body psychotherapist brings the two worlds of “body and mind” together in an integrated approach to healthy and restorative holistic change. Jane assists her client to find what is blocking them from having a richer life experience. Helping a client find healthy, connecting ways of moving through challenges in life is something that Jane enjoys when working with her clients. The clinic is comfortable and inviting and more like a lounge room than a “clinic”.
Jane uses both a counselling and body psychotherapy approach. This is done by using contemporary talk therapy as well as mindfulness, breathwork, visualization and sensory observation just to name a few. Movement is also used in a session when a client feels there are places of “tightness” or of being “stuck” within the body. Jane always checks in with how the client is feeling with regards to the process of therapy and asks how they are integrating their insights and understandings into their life. Each session is tailored to the needs of the client and what their immediate and long-term goals are. What Jane most loves about being a therapist is seeing how the client gains confidence and renewed happiness in their life.
