Dr Vicki Cowling is a skilled and compassionate counsellor with extensive experience in diverse settings. She is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and a member of the AASW and the Australian Psychological Society. Vicki has a substantial professional background and has worked in non-government, educational, academic, and public and private mental health sectors. Vicki provides effective therapeutic support to adults, families, children, adolescents and couples.
Vicki values working collaboratively with all clients in an empathic, respectful and non-judgemental way that allows them to feel at ease and describe the difficulties they have come to resolve. Vicki uses her long-standing experience to support clients explore their current difficulty, and past events that may have contributed to it. Through this process, with guidance and suggested strategies, clients gain insight and confidence in themselves, find new strengths, and genuine and constructive ways forward.
Vicki follows a bio-psycho-social approach that considers the individuality of each client, or family, and their situation, and life stage. Counselling is tailored to the needs of the client with evidence-based approaches used including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Family Work. These approaches are adapted when working with children and young people. Vicki is committed to supporting clients to make the changes they want to make to continue life with increased hope and confidence.
