Dr Sophie Sunderland is a highly qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working with individuals and couples. She uses an evidence-based approach that supports clients to make genuine, lasting change. Sophie has a highly engaging manner that is non-judgemental and attentive to the individual needs of clients.
Sophie holds a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy from Edith Cowan University where she is also a sessional academic. She also holds a Doctor of Philosophy in social and cultural studies, with a focus on grief and psychoanalytic theory. Her social science background means she is skilled at supporting clients to identify the role social pressures play on self-expression, relationships, and a sense of belonging. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, using psychodynamic, relational, narrative-based and attachment-based modalities.
Sophie’s work is driven by her understanding that life challenges, conflicts, and grief present opportunities for new insights, self-acceptance, and transformative growth. She has a strong interest in post-traumatic growth, mindfulness, and trauma-informed practice. She provides a place for clients to explore the impact of their past on their present, and to make intentional changes that bring greater resilience, meaning, and inner calm. This provides the foundation for more fulfilling relationships and personal wellbeing.
