Dr Marilyn Barton is a highly skilled Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years’ experience. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. In addition to her private practice, she has worked in a range of settings including both the public and private sectors. Marilyn provides effective therapeutic support for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
Marilyn has always taken the time to get to know her clients, and forms a close relationship with them, as she believes that this will assist her clients to feel comfortable to be able to work on the reasons they have come to see her. Her clients find her warm, empathetic and non-judgemental. As a general rule, Marilyn’s aim is to help her clients change and grow through a client centred approach. During the first session, Marilyn explores the client’s issues and background, and works with them to identify their goals of therapy. Subsequent sessions are then tailored to the client’s needs at each appointment as the client explores their feelings and thoughts, and past experiences.
Marilyn is skilled in a variety of different techniques to assist her clients meet their goals, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Hypnosis as well as many other techniques. She believes that her clients have the ability to make the changes they want, but often just need to be given the skills to do so, in an emotionally safe environment.
