Barbara Nicholls is an experienced Clinical Counsellor with over twenty years of dedicated service in the field of counselling. Barbara has worked with young people and adults in many different settings. She is also a member of the Australian Counselling Association and supervises other counsellors in clinical practice.
Barbara believes that the client experience is paramount and that the connection she has will help to ensure that the client’s expectations are met. Building trust with the client is therefore extremely important and Barbara works hard to ensure that the therapeutic relationship provides that for the client. She also understands that attending a counselling session for the first time can cause anxiety and she gently guides the client through what a session might include. Barbara’s ability to connect with clients from all walks of life, combined with her commitment to ongoing professional development, ensures that her clients therefore receive high-quality, evidence-based care.
Barbara adopts a compassionate, client-centred approach, tailoring her methods to suit the unique needs of each client. Drawing on a range of therapeutic frameworks, she is committed to fostering a supportive and confidential environment where clients can explore concerns, build resilience, achieve meaningful goals and develop the capacity to work on personal growth. Barbara uses a practical approach focussing on the client’s strengths, where the knowledge gained by the client can be implemented through learned strategies and the willingness to explore new knowledge for themselves.
