Alison McDonald is a highly regarded counsellor and family therapist with decades of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and families explore issues impacting on their lives. Alison is also a fully accredited member of the AASW and AAFT.
Alison believes that every person has within them the ability to truly enjoy life and the capacity to work on what may be getting in the way. We all face difficulties, some over a long time, others just for a season. Alison provides the opportunity to both address your concerns and build on your strengths.
Alison is experienced in working with all the many challenges life can bring. She has a person-centred approach and always works from a non-blame positive perspective. Alison’s thinking is informed by the strengths-based perspective, attachment theory and trauma informed care. Alison’s theoretical map is Narrative therapy with a suite of other approaches such as, solution focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt and Jungian psychotherapy. Schema therapy and Internal family systems theory are more recent additions. In family work Alison borrows ideas and techniques from all the family therapy schools. Alison believes in using theory which will best help the person.
